The industry network Wetzlar Network has been accepted into the "Internationalisation of Leading-Edge Clusters" funding programme, which is run by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and can now look forward to receiving up to four million euros in funding over the next five years. As part of the German government's new high tech strategy, it is supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in their efforts to foster international cooperation in the areas of research and innovation. To this end, the BMBF is focusing on strategic collaborations between regional clusters or networks and international partners. Wetzlar Network is the only network from the state of Hesse to make it into the final round of 11 candidates. Specifically, the funding is designed to promote an international partnership between the optical industry in the Wetzlar region and the ELI laser research centre in Prague.
